Day 1 – From Lake Bohinj to Vodnikov Dom
The hike starts at the Triglav National Park information point at Lake Bohinj, then follows the clear Mostnica river towards Stara Fužina and the scenic Mostnica Gorge. Leaving the day trippers behind, the trail climbs steadily through forest towards the high pasture of Uskovnica, where a picturesque chapel and wide-open alpine views make a perfect first break.
From here, a mix of forest paths, narrow mountain trails and a first short secured section with cables leads higher into more rugged terrain. The final stretch crosses rocky slopes and loose scree before you reach Vodnikov Dom, your first hut, with sunset views towards Mount Triglav and a good chance of spotting ibex on an evening stroll.
Day 2 – High passes and the Seven Lakes Valley
After an early breakfast at the hut, the route first descends past small wooden and stone shepherds’ huts before climbing again towards the high passes. Marmots, grazing cows and big views of the surrounding peaks accompany the way as the landscape becomes increasingly barren and alpine, with several short scrambling sections and even some lingering snowfields.
From the first saddle at Sedlo Dolič, the path continues past Koča na Doliču and climbs to another impressive pass that only reveals itself at the last moment on a bend in the scree path. A steep, hands-on downclimb leads into the heart of the Seven Lakes Valley, where the first emerald lake quickly makes you forget the demanding descent and a scenic balcony path then gently traverses to Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih, your second hut right by the water.
Day 3 – Long descent back to Lake Bohinj
Breakfast at Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih is usually served from 7:00, leaving enough time for the long descent. Several descent options are possible; in bad weather, the gentler route “around” rather than over another exposed pass is often the safer choice.
The trail leads through forest and open meadows, past idyllic alpine pastures and another hut at Planina pri Jezeru, where it is worth stopping for a break. Later, a side trip to the Vogar viewpoint rewards you with sweeping views over Lake Bohinj before a very steep and sometimes slippery forest path (especially after rain) delivers you back down to Stara Fužina and the valley floor.
