The Soča Trail: Overview

The Soča Trail (Soča pot) is a ~28 km path roughly from the Soča source to Bovec, flexible for partial sections based on fitness, weather, and time. Hiking downstream loses more elevation than gained, suiting beginners while requiring surefootedness over rocks and wet spots.
Trail Sections
- Section 1: Soča Source to Trenta: Starts at the spring in a steep rock niche above the road (Julische Alpen). Follows east bank then crosses; passes Dr. Julius Kugy Monument, Mlinarica Gorge, botanical alpine garden, and campsites. Bus stop in Trenta for easy starts/ends.
- Section 2: Trenta to Soča: Downstream, overlaps Alpe-Adria Trail briefly. Crosses river; hits campsites and Mala Korita (Little Soča Gorges)—impressive deep rock carving.
- Section 3: Soča Village to Bovec: More bridges, both banks; features Velika Korita (Great Soča Pools) at Krovec with natural rock basins. River widens/flattens near Bovec; camps and access points abound
Logistics: Access, Parking, Buses
Paid parking at source, Bovec, and intermediates. No bus to exact source (1.7 km walk from nearest stop south); start there or at Trenta/Bovec. Buses run seasonally—check tourism info or online for schedules.
